Trips
Overnight adventures
Come join us for an overnight sleepover filled with fun and educational activities. Your troop can select our Nocturnal Animal or Night Hike program. Some activities during the Nocturnal Animal program include meeting a live owl, and learning about bats and eco-location. For the Night Hike, we will explore our senses while hiking through the grounds in the evening. After exploring nature at night, your group will be nice and cozy in our education building (a heated historic barn). The following morning, the group will be able to participate in one of our Scout Badge or Try-It programs.
Fall: September through early December.
Spring, March through May.
You can choose either a Friday night into Saturday, or a Saturday night into Sunday.
ADVENTURE TRIPS:
Chincoteague Wildlife Refuge Weekend:
Spend the weekend (Friday evening through Sunday) at Chincoteague biking and hiking in search of wild ponies and birds. We will also collect aquatic organisms at the ocean and bay. Trip includes transportation, biking, the Marine Explorers program, food and camping gear (except sleeping bags). This is one of our most popular programs and space is limited, so call early to reserve your space. Fee: $125.00/person.
Cape May Whale Watch and Birding Weekend:
We will visit Cape May State Park and go on a whale watching trip as well as visit a salt marsh to look for birds of prey. The cost of the trip includes whale watching, birding, entrance to the Cape May Zoo, camping, camping gear (except sleeping bags), food and transportation. Trip runs Saturday morning into Sunday evening. Fee: $115.00/person.
Birding Trip:
Spend the first part of the day at GVNC visiting our Bird of Prey Center. You will get to see some of our raptors up close. Then we will head out to some great bird watching spots in the area. Binoculars and field guides will be provided. Program is 3 1/2 hours. Bring a bag lunch. Fee: $9.00/person.
Hawk Mountain Trip:
A GVNC staff member will be your tour guide as you hike Hawk Mountain in search of birds of prey and other wildlife. Trip runs from 10am to 4pm, September through November. Fee is $25/person. We can take a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 14 people. Meet at GVNC, bring good walking shoes, a bag lunch and water. Fee: $25.00/person.
Ricketts Glen Trip:
Spend your weekend hiking, birding, and camping at beautiful Ricketts Glen. The Glen is known for its beautiful waterfalls, old growth forests, and its excellent birding. Trip runs Saturday morning into Sunday evening. Fee: $115.00/person.
Design Your Own Trip:
We would be happy to help you custom design your own adventure trip. A few ideas include, but are not limited to: historical, wildlife watching, and canoeing/kayaking.
